Just “Thank You”
Pastor Todd Crofford
Jesus asked, "Weren't ten men made clean? Where are the other nine? Only this foreigner came back to praise God."
-Luke 17:17-18 GW
The percentages really bother me here. 10%.
One in 10 came to Jesus and simply said “Thank you!” Another gospel writer noticed that Jesus marveled at this. It blew Jesus’ mind how ungrateful we can be concerning the Lord’s goodness. I like to believe that I am a pretty thankful guy. The words “thank you” come off my lips quite naturally… I think. But then I began to ask myself. How much of my prayer time is spent thanking God? Too little.
Why would I be so poor at saying “thank you.” I came up with a few possibilities and none of them are very flattering, but here goes.
1. I am too busy. Once God has accomplished what I asked him for, it sends me off to do the next thing.
2. Maybe I am just spoiled. I have gotten to where I expect good things in my life. Why wouldn’t God want to do nice things for a great guy like me?
3. One final possibility is that I just assume God knows I am thankful, so I don’t need to say it. But unexpressed gratitude is just a form of ingratitude.
How about you? Are you faithful to thank God for all he does, or have you gotten caught in some of the same traps that I have?
