Let. It. Go.
Pastor Chrissy Cooney
Have you ever been angry with someone and then stopped in the middle of that angry situation to pray – either with or for the person?
I will never forget the first time I experienced this. My husband and I were angry with each other, voices were raised, emotions were high, and he stood in the middle of our kitchen, held his hands out to me, and said, “Let’s pray.”
I didn’t want to pray. I didn’t feel like praying. I wanted to be angry.
Instead, I relented. I rested my hands in his (although, begrudgingly) and allowed him to lead me in prayer.
As soon as we invited Jesus into our situation, the atmosphere changed. In that moment, our perspectives and priorities changed. In that moment, the anger was diffused, and the argument was over.
Ephesians 4:26 tells us, “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” This verse comes up often in the context of marriage and not going to bed angry at each other, but there is more here. This verse is speaking to us about being full of grace, quick to forgive, quick to let go of the anger.
Why? If we choose to hold onto anger, we will end up in sin – bitterness, resentment, vengeance, or violence are all results of holding on to our anger.
But if we submit to the Lord and allow His Grace and forgiveness to prevail, then we will experience patience, kindness, gentleness and love.
So, next time you find yourself filling up with anger. Let. It. Go. Allow Jesus to bring you peace, and change the atmosphere around you. Free yourself from the sin that so easily comes with anger and reap the reward of peace.
Let. It. Go.
