The Narrow Door

The Narrow Door
Anna Williams

Have you ever struggled with a narrow doorway? I can immediately picture myself trying to carry a couch with my husband through a doorway and asking him “Wait, move it to your left or my left??”

And don’t get me started on trying to navigate through doorways with a wheelchair. It should be an Olympic sport. I think it’s great that Jesus used this common experience to help us understand this analogy of salvation.

“Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?”
He replied, “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom,
for many will try to enter but will fail.”
-Luke 13:23-24 NLT

A narrow doorway may be difficult to locate at first glance. It might not be readily apparent to everyone but only to those who are seeking it out.

A crowd cannot enter a doorway together; each individual must choose to step across that threshold for themselves. Your parent’s/spouse’s/friend’s faith will not be enough to save you.

One cannot enter carrying cumbersome baggage (sin, greed, pride, etc.) and continue forward carrying it. That baggage must be left behind in order that one might press forward.
Christ warns true believers that there may be moments in our journey when we feel isolated – as if we are the only fish swimming upstream. If you’re feeling alone, take heart that you are part of God’s Kingdom and your efforts through obedience will lead to amazing things!
