Quick to Listen, Slow to Speak
Kaleigh Hoschar
Let’s get real for a second…
Anger exists in this world. None of us are exempt from it, we all know what it looks like in someone else and we all will let it get the best of us at some point.
But what do we do with that? That feeling that wells up inside of us when we witness injustice. When our friend or neighbor does something that just isn’t right. Our families make decisions in life that don’t quite sit well with us. Or maybe it's yourself, and you just can’t get over it.
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” -James 1:19
I remember hearing a blurb from a pastor once…he said that we all have two eyes, two ears and one mouth… he’s telling us we should be listening twice as much as we are talking.
What happens when we are quick to listen…is that we get the whole story.
What happens when we are slow to speak…is that we choose our words carefully and thoughtfully.
What happens when we are slow to become angry…is that our response just looks different.
We look more like Jesus and our heart beats a little more in sync with God’s.
And you know what else happens? We really SEE people. Not just as people but as those who are loved and cherished by God.
Challenging you and I today… be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.
