Falling Short with our Riches

They are the kind of riches that fill our days and our calendars – markers of a life rich in opportunities and obligations. Demanding of our time, our energy, and our resources, they tend to distract us, consume us and even stress us as they compete for our attention.
In our modern and rich lives, it is HARD to put the first thing first. We can become so easily disconnected, failing to root ourselves in prayer and his word. We tell ourselves each Sunday that we will try harder this week, that we WILL make the time for him.
But then the Monday morning alarm clock goes off, and the work emails pile in, and its rushing off to school drop offs and appointments, and planning dinners around busy evenings. And before we know it, we wrap up our day realizing we spoke little to God.
Sound familiar? You’re not alone - I just described my own day.
You might be desperately asking yourself, Who then can be saved? But let Jesus’ words sink in: What is impossible with man is possible with God.
Luke 18:26-27.
Jesus knows what we are up against. He knew the demands and distractions that would be in your life when he faced the cross, and he STILL went. His grace bridges the gap for us when we fall short in our hyper busy lives. His choice for us never waivers.
This is not an excuse to stop striving to do better and to draw nearer, however we can rest in knowing that God still loves us even when our worldly riches get the best of us. His goodness and mercy know no bounds!
