A Clear Call to Readiness
Pastor Chrissy Cooney
“You hypocrites! You can forecast the weather by judging the appearance of earth and sky. But for some reason you don’t know how to judge the time in which you’re living.” Luke 12:56
This February, our community had a few snowstorms that had a significant impact on daily activities.
As forecasts for inclement weather are announced - how do you and your household, or your business, prepare?
In my household, as we prepared for the snowstorms, we bought rock salt to treat our sidewalk and front steps, we made sure we had some cash to pay the plow drivers who offer their services clearing driveways in our neighborhood, and at one point – between a couple of the storms – we bought a new snow shovel.
If we had seen the forecasts and ignored them, we would have been ill-prepared and there would have been consequences.
Jesus is clearly calling us to readiness in this passage of scripture. His desire is that we understand that the kingdom of God is at hand and that we prepare ourselves, personally.
The day when we will stand before the Righteous Judge is in the forecast. Whether our life here on earth ends tomorrow, or we live to see Jesus’ return, we will all stand before Him. Just a few verses later in Luke 13:5 Jesus says, “But if you don’t turn to God and change the way you think and act, then you, too, will all die.”
How will you respond to this call to readiness?
