Cornerstone
Pastor Chrissy Cooney
Then Jesus looked straight at them and asked, “What, then, does this Scripture verse mean: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’? Luke 20:17
In this passage from Luke, Jesus is quoting Psalm 18. He is talking about Himself, and the fact that He will give his very life for us, as our Cornerstone – the very basis of our salvation.
I am not a builder, so it always fascinates me to investigate the significance of a Cornerstone. Any quick web search will tell you at least a couple of things about cornerstones:
1. The cornerstone is the first stone set, and it determines the position of the entire structure
2. The cornerstone is the most important part of the building
Jesus.
He is the First and the Last, the One who existed before all things and the One who is over all things. He is the Most Important part of everything. He is our Salvation and our Redeemer.
As we approach Good Friday and Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday), as we prepare to celebrate all that Jesus has done for us, let’s each examine our own life to be sure that we are not rejecting Him in any area.
Lord, examine my heart. Is there any area where I am rejecting You - your Foundation, your direction, or your leadership? Is there any part of me that is more worried about what people think than what You think? Is there any area of my life where I am making something – anything – more important than You?
