A Pattern of Renewal
By: Pastor Todd
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. -Romans 12:2 NIV
When I knew Diane was the ONE for me, I wanted the proposal to be special- something she would never forget. So I wrote her a poem that said she would receive one red rose at a time from me. When she got the twelfth- I would propose.
I spread those first nine roses over a year, and on the weekend I asked her to marry me, I put a ton of thought into how the 10th, 11th and 12th roses came. She was actually wearing the 11th as a corsage when the waiter showed up at our table with the twelfth rose on a silver platter. Then I got down on my knee and asked her to be my wife. Yah, I nailed it!
It took lots of planning because I wanted it to be great. Great actions always begin with great thoughts. We will not just automatically obey God in our actions without submitting our thinking to him. Just as great thoughts lead to great actions, wrong thoughts lead to wrong actions. Is your mind in a pattern of renewal by what you focus on and how you think?
If I am going to be the master over sin in my body, I must first be master over this easily wandering and all-too-stubborn mind. According to Paul, the renewed mind is not only possible, but it leads to fulfilling God’s will. That sounds great.
Pray with me. God, renew my mind. Teach me to seek after and focus on things that lead to holiness- not worldliness. Amen.
