I Once Was Lost…
Pastor Chrissy Cooney
“Suppose a woman has ten coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house, and look for the coin carefully until she has it? When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Let’s celebrate! I’ve found the coin that I lost.’ So I can guarantee that God’s angels are happy about one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts!” Luke 15:8-10
Have you ever lost something and spent a significant amount of time, energy, or resources finding it?
When I was 2, my father took me. He came to pick me up for a weekend visit and called my mom a couple of hours later, telling her she would never see me again.
For the next four years, my mom spent every penny, every ounce of energy, and every resource she had trying to find me.
When I was 6, God intervened miraculously, and Mom found me and brought me home. I can still see the great crowd that was waiting at the airport to greet me and celebrate my return as I got off the plane that day.
It's difficult to imagine a love greater than a parent’s love for a child - but it exists - in God’s love for us. He gave His all so that each one of us could be “found”, so that we can be saved, redeemed, and restored in relationship to the Father.
In this life, each one of us starts off “lost” - far from God. Because of His great love for us, He has already provided the way home, miraculously, through the cross and the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. And what great rejoicing there is when the lost are found!
