Sowing Seeds

Sowing Seeds
Nicole Goddard

What is the kingdom of God like, and what can I compare it to? Its like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden. It grew and became tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches. Luke 13:18-19

Someone recently told me, “the only thing you can bring into heaven with you is your children”. Both a beautiful and terrifying sentiment, there is nothing I want more than to be sure that my children will choose eternity with Jesus.

At this moment, it seems easy enough to achieve when my littles are so young, adore Jesus, and have yet to face any real trials in their lives or have the world tell them they are wrong. I want to preserve their childlike faith and shelter them from all to come - to give them perfect conditions to grow in.

But I can’t. I can only sow these little seeds of mine. Sow faith into their little hearts and wisdom into their minds and pray that they draw from what we teach them as they grow.
These seeds will go through seasons, changing weather and withstand trials that I will have to watch from afar, tending and nurturing where I can with love and truth. As God reaches down to them, I will fervently pray that both the joy and the pain in their lives will cause them to reach up and grasp his hand.

And yet, the best part isn’t just that they will grow into a beautiful tree, but that other souls will find rest in them. That their own testimonies would help them minister to the world around them and to their own families one day. The Kingdom of God spreading with each seed sown!
