Samson’s Hair Grows Back!
By: Chrissy Cooney
Have you ever looked around and found yourself deep in a mess of your own making – in desperate need of a second chance?
Samson found himself in this situation too. Samson was called (just as you and I are) to be set apart for God. But one day Samson shares the secret of his strength and finds himself shaved, blind, bound, and imprisoned by the Philistines (Judges 16:21).
Perhaps It’s Samson’s lust, or perhaps it’s his pride that leads him astray, either way he breaks his vow to the Lord and finds himself powerless and subdued, being mocked by his enemies. In Judges 16:20 we read, “[Delilah] cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.”
But God does not leave him there! Just two verses later we read, “But before long, his hair began to grow back” (16:22). God was already on the move – working on Samson’s redemption.
And in verse 28, Samson makes his request, “Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” And God honors that request, allowing Samson to have more impact in his final moments than he did during the 20 years that he led Israel. Because when God gives you a second chance, it is always greater than the former.
If you think you’ve blown it, ruined it, or squandered it - repent and ask God for another chance. He loves you and He is waiting for your request. He wants to show you the beauty of His grace and mercy.
