The Unlikely Guest List
Jesus told a parable about a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son, the groom. First, he invited all the usual, high-standing, successful guests. (The ones who anyone would assume to be attending such an event.) However, they all declined to set aside their busy lives and plans to attend.
“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.” – Matthew 22:8-10 NIV
In this parable, believers are the servants – not the King. It is our responsibility to extend the invitation – not determine who should be on the guest list. God has made it very clear that he wants EVERYONE to have the opportunity to hear the good news.
That means that we are required to do more than just wait for unbelievers to suddenly see the value in faith and come to visit us in our churches. We have an obligation to share Christ’s love and invitation in the streets and anywhere else the lost are located.
Join me in praying today for a heart that is set after the King’s heart with a desire to invite as many people as possible to come to know Him.
