It’s Not About You

For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible… everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. -Colossians 1:16 MSG
In his best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren’s opening words are “It’s not about you.” How tremendously counter-cultural! In a world that says we find true happiness and our deepest purpose when we chase our own fulfillment, God says we find happiness in knowing we were created by him and for him.
The abilities, intellect, finance and opportunities afforded to us by God are so that we can contribute to this world in a way that God determined beforehand. All we are able to do is from him and for him.
If that is true, then whether you are a baker, a boot maker, or a trash taker, your lot in life has been given to you by God. Do it well because it is ultimately for him not for you. As you put your all into whatever it is you have been given to do, joy will return to you in the form of fulfilled purpose.
