Everything Wears Out
By: Pastor Todd
See how I love your precepts;
preserve my life, O Lord, according to your love.
All your words are true;
all your righteous laws are eternal.
Psalm 119:159-160 NIV
I love our living room couches. They are comfortable, have electrical recliners, and they have been with us for many years. The other day my wife said, “you know were going to need to replace those sometime sooner than later." I had no idea what she was talking about until I stopped to take a fresh look. Yep- they are showing some serious wear.
I think the reason I didn’t notice is because everything wears out on this planet. Our best clothes, our beautiful cars, and even these beloved bodies. We live on a planet marred by sin and the decay that comes with it.
Is there anything in our existence that doesn’t wear out? Yes- the truth of God’s Word. It is just as valid, just as current, and just as powerful as it has ever been.
Our need for God never diminishes no matter what else falls apart. Our opportunity to enjoy this life under his commands is just a real as when the Psalmist preached thousands of years ago. Today, take a minute and celebrate that his ways are good, his promises are certain, and his truth will never wear out in a world that does.
