A Well Lit Path
By: Chrissy Cooney
Psalm 119:105-106
Have you ever walked in a dark place and been unsure of your footing? I actually fell in a parking lot once. It was dark and the parking lot was mostly empty as I walked to my car. The spot where I parked was poorly lit and there was a curbed area with some landscaping that jutted out into the parking lot. I walked right into that curb, and landed full force, in the mulch, on my knees. If only there had been a light to keep me on the flat and stable path…
Life can feel like that dark parking lot sometimes. Here you are walking through life with purpose, maybe a little tired from the business or hard parts of your world, and there are trip hazards everywhere! I’m so thankful that God provides guidance through His Word. If we stay on the lit path provided by His law, we won’t trip and fall over the little (or big) temptations that jump out at us.
The psalmist wrote: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws” (Psalm 119:105-106). God’s word lights our way and shows us the path to take to keep us upright and on our feet. As we hide His word in our hearts, we know our King even more, we become familiar with His voice, and the way before us is lit. Oh Lord, my God, I love your law because it keeps me safe and helps me avoid the snares of the enemy and the temptations of my flesh. Thank you, God Almighty, for lighting the way before me!
