Purposed Wait

“Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.””
‭‭Joshua‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

For tomorrow, the LORD will do amazing things. It’s been 40yrs and now tomorrow will be the start of the end of an era. Israel will have a land of their own. But waiting for the moment didn’t come easy for her. It took 40yrs of pruning, refining, and stripping of the old. It’s been said that it wasn’t just getting Israel out of Egypt but Egypt out of Israel. They needed to know God’s Name and His character. They needed to learn His Laws and obey His truth before it was time.

Like Israel, God uses waiting seasons to do the same for us. Waiting is good! Though easier said than done, it is! In our day, everything is instantaneous. Gratification comes from a post and “like”. Needs and wants are blurry with 2 day prime and the convenience of “buy now”.  But God has designed wait in the very fabric of His creation. All living creatures have a gestation period before being born. Seeds take time to sprout. Days to night and a night into day take hours to transition. If waiting is in God’s design, it must be important! It must be good!

God’s timing is perfect and purposed. A few chapters later in Joshua, Rahab will be introduced. One of 5 women, a Gentile, that will be named in the lineage of Jesus (Matthew 1). The very line we cherish and celebrate every Christmas season for His arrival and long for His coming. So, consecrate yourself. Be ready as God is using this time to shape you. For tomorrow He will do Amazing things!
