Pain comes with a Promise
By: Chrissy Cooney
You already know that suffering and pain are guaranteed in this life. Do you also know that pain comes with a promise?
Sickness, loss, heartbreak.Suffering that life throws at us undeservingly or suffering that is caused by our own actions. In every case, there is a promise that we can hold on to. Psalm 34:18 makes it clear, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” He is near you. He is with you. He is for you.
And there’s more. Our Great God is a merciful Father … the source of all comfort (2 Cor 1:3 NLT). He wastes nothing. He won’t just surround you with peace, but He will allow you to carry that Peace to others as well; He comforts us so that we can comfort others with that same comfort (2 Cor 1:4 NLT). And God is sufficient. His comfort is poured out in equal measure with our pain - the more we suffer, the more He showers us with comfort (2 Cor 1:5 NLT).
If you are in pain today, if you are suffering, will you allow Him to surround you and fill you with His comfort? With His peace? Will you accept consolation from those people that God has placed in your life who have themselves been comforted?
If you have experienced the comfort that God provides, will you carry it to someone who is in distress today? Will you bring a word of encouragement, a listening ear, a warm hug and the presence of a friend?
Whichever situation you are in today, will you pray this prayer with me? I encourage you to pray it out loud if you can.
Oh Lord Most High, I need You. It’s by Your power that lives are changed, hearts are healed and chains are broken. You have the final authority over everything. I may not ever understand Your thoughts or Your plans, but I trust You. I need Your help. I need Your comfort. I need Your peace. Will you help me to be aware of Your nearness today? Will You help me to carry Your peace to those that I interact with and make me aware of those that need Your comfort so that I can be a demonstration of Your love to them? Please work in me and through me today.
In Jesus Mighty Name I pray. Amen.
