How Long?

How long?
By: Pastor Melissa

How long, Lord must we wait? How long must I live in despair? How long, Lord do I continue to grieve? How long, Lord must this season continue? How long, Lord does injustice keep happening?
The list of “how long” can go on and they are not new questions. David asked these very questions.

“How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?”

These are the raw feelings of David, and they sound so familiar. Have you ever been this raw with God? Really let him hear your heart? God knows our innermost thoughts and yet He wants us to still bring them to Him. He wants us to acknowledge the suffering we face and address them with Him.

Suffering comes in all shapes in sizes. Circumstances do not define the real emotion and feelings that happen during times of suffering. We all have emotions and feelings that we need to let God work through, remind ourselves that He still sits on the throne, and allow others walk with us in them. Big or small.

Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.

The most important word in this Psalm is “but”. “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the LORD’s praise for he has been good to me”.  David in his despair and suffering remembers that the LORD is still good. His love is steadfast, it is unfailing.  Will you remember today, despite the circumstances the “but”? Call out to God for He loves you. Call out to a godly friend for they will counsel you.
