I Am Ezer
By: Pastor Amie Donovan

“The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’… Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.”  -Genesis 2:18,22

I love being a Girl Mom. From pigtails to pink dresses to dance class, we have done it all. I have called my daughters princesses because that is who they are. Heirs to the kingdom of our Father God, adopted and set apart for a purpose.

But there’s another truth I speak into my girls. While they are daughters to the King of Kings, they also have another identity they get to live into. They are warriors. Created to bear the image of God, who 66 times in Scripture is referenced in trait to the word Ezer. Do you know what Ezer means?

Helper.

That’s right—the same word used to describe woman in Genesis 2. God created women to be Ezers. That word translates to warrior, rescuer, strong, and protective. They are not created to simply be looked at or placed in a tower in some far-off land waiting for the prince to save her.

Rather, they are created to stand beside their Adam. From his side, she was taken. By his side, she belongs. Not to compete, but to complete. Together, they are created to participate in the Kingdom of God. Together, they work to see lost souls repent, disciples made, and the enemy overcome. It was not good for Adam to be alone. So, God made him an Ezer.

Daughter to the King of Kings, you are made in the image of God.
