Uneven Pavement
By: Pastor Mark White

“...Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6

My daughter Gabby and I were driving through Leonardtown on Route 5, where they are working on the road. There was a sign that said "UNEVEN PAVEMENT." It's a sign warning us that there is work being done, and the next stretch of the road wouldn’t be smooth. The pavement is uneven and may cause the steering wheel to veer off.

This can be frustrating and even dangerous. Life often feels like that too, doesn't it? It’s filled with unexpected bumps and obstacles that may make us question our purpose or veer off course. In those moments, it's easy to become discouraged and wonder if we will ever reach our destination.

But in Philippians 1:6, the apostle Paul offers us a comforting reminder: "...Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." What an encouragement in the midst of life's uneven pavement. It reminds us that our journey is not in vain and that we are not alone.

God has initiated a good work in each one of us. He has lovingly crafted a unique path for our lives, and He promises to see it through to completion. He is not deterred by the bumps along the way, nor does He abandon us when we stumble. Instead, He walks beside us, guiding our steps and providing the strength we need to persevere.

When we encounter trials and setbacks, let us remember that they are not indicators of failure but opportunities for growth. They are moments where our faith is tested and refined. In these moments of struggle, God often works most powerfully in our lives, shaping us into the people He has designed us to be.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your faithfulness to complete the good work you have begun in us. Truly, you are greater than any uneven pavement we may be facing!
