God Speaks; Are You Listening?
By: Melissa Beauvais
In Gen. 1 “And God Said…..” is repeated 10 times throughout the creation poem. 10 times the reader is reminded it is God who commands all of creation.
At some point today look at the ground, the dirt. Remind yourself that in one blow humanity began.
With one breath God spoke life into existence and put the breath of life in the lungs of all living creatures. Gen. 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed the Adam (human) from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
God’s voice, God’s breath brings life.
In Mark 4 and the verses that are often given the title “Jesus calms the Storm”, v.35 strikes me the most “That day when evening came, he said to his disciples “Let us go over to the other side”. Before the storm, before the chaos, Jesus spoke what was to come into existence. “Let us” meaning everyone in that boat, “go over to the other side” meaning its Jesus who is God, spoke it so we are getting to the other side. Jesus spoke it but the disciples had not heard it.
They did not realize it was God speaking. We too, can hear a lot about Jesus or read His words, but do they realize it is God speaking? Do we? Think about that. These are not just mere words from an ordinary man, no these are words from the Messiah, God incarnate. Fully Human Fully Divine. Are we listening?
Listen closely to God’s voice. He is speaking. His Word is where we get to know how to hear His voice, know His character, and learn His ways. “Speak Lord, Your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10).
