Great is Your Faithfulness!
By: Pastor Shane Beauvais
His mercies are new every day!
The moment you opened your eyes this morning indicates that God’s purpose for your life is incomplete. Lamentations 3:22-23 reads:
“Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
As we enter a time of thanksgiving this week, I recognize that seasons such as this can be challenging. When things are not going well, we tend not to celebrate with gratitude as much as we should.
If we are being sincere, it is not easy to feel grateful when things are not so ideal, and this is why I love this book, specifically this passage.
After all, Lamentations is the name of the book. Within, you will find poems of grief, mourning, and melancholy. However, even in the middle of the writer’s hardship, the author rejoices at the Lord’s faithfulness!
Friends, I believe there is a lesson for us to learn today in the context of our personal and spiritual life.
Instead of getting bogged down by the imperfections around us, we get the opportunity on this new day to improve who we were yesterday, respond differently, make better choices, rejoice in the Lord and give thanks as His mercies are new every day!
Let us put this into perspective. I was reading a book a few years ago by Mark Batterson titled “If.” In Batterson’s writing, he shares the meaning of the Hebrew word hadas, “different—as in never before experienced.”
Sounds great, right? Yeah, I thought so too! However, the depths of this did not hit me until I calculated the Lord’s mercies in my life.
Batterson explains this simple mercy math: jot down how old you are. Multiply that by 365. For example, I am 41, so I multiply that by 365. In my life, the Lord has blessed me with 14,965 mercies, all new each day!
No matter where you are, the Lord’s mercies are new for you daily!
This is something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season! How many new mercies has the Lord blessed you with?
