This last Sunday we learned that God is committed to his vision of our purpose. Psalm 138 reminded us that He will fulfill his purposes for us. Legendary comic strip writer Bill Watterson once quipped, “God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind, He may never let me die.”
All joking aside. Who doesn’t love the thought of God letting us in on His will for our accomplishments? If He would just give us a checklist, we would feel like we could track how we are doing. Where is the list of what He wants us to do in our lifetime?
Well, be encouraged, there is at least one thing we can know for certain is God’s will for us while on earth. I Thessalonians 4:3 says, “What God wants is that you be holy.” This year He wants to cleanse our minds, clean up our words, and be glorified in our actions. While we ponder and surrender what He wants to do through us, He is working to do new things in us.
God isn’t just looking for plumbers or math teachers or grocery store clerks. He is looking for sanctified plumbers, sanctified teachers and sanctified clerks. Begin today with a prayer something like this:
Lord, make me holy today
Cleanse my heart, mind, and body.
Be pleased in all I do
Amen.
