Live the good life by living the new life. Do you remember the B.C. version of yourself? I certainly remember mine. I was hungry but never satisfied, thirsty with something this world couldn’t quench. I was lonely in crowded spaces, and empty though my life on the outside was full. After I truly gave myself over to our God, He began transforming me into the person I am becoming. While I am not yet where I’m going to be, I am certainly on my way.
Ephesians 4:22-24 says “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
While Jesus Christ set us free from the penalty of sin, it is a daily choice to no longer live enslaved to our old selves! Romans 6:6 says, “We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.” Often, while growing in relationship with Jesus my old nature would rise up. I would fall back into the ways of my past. On the days I struggle to remember who I am, I choose to read Ephesians 4 and Romans 6. I am reminded that I am a new creation. My old self was crucified with Christ. I am reminded that the Spirit is renewing my thoughts and fixing my attitude. I simply must surrender to the process and pursue righteousness. In short, living the good life IS living the new life.
Would you pray this with me?
Father God,
We thank you for the gift of salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We praise your Holy name! Will you help us today and every day to not live our lives in our B.C. nature? Those days are behind us, and you are ahead of us. You lead God, and we will follow. We love you.
Amen
