Hunger for Revival Devo

“And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. ACTS 4:29-31  (ESV)

At the time we read this prayer, the apostles were facing great opposition for their mission of spreading the gospel. What I love most about this passage is when the disciples faced opposition they didn’t pray for safety! Rather they prayed to remain steadfast. They asked God to make them bold and stretch out his hand so all could see his greatness in the name of Jesus! In that moment God responds with the most powerful gift of all. His Spirit! It’s important to note that this isn’t a salvation moment for the apostles. The Holy Spirit already dwelt within them. This was a special filling, or outpouring, to embolden them to continue the work of ministering.
One thing we often say at Real Life is that we are ALL the ministers! You don’t need a platform to have a purpose! As the church of God, and his Holy temple, we live out ministry everywhere we go. Church, we should hunger for this outpour of the Holy Spirit within our homes. Within our community. Within our schools and our workplaces! Revival starts on your knees and moves when the Holy Spirit emboldens us!

Abba, would you fill us? Would you embolden us for the good of those around us? Our heart is sold out to reaching Southern Maryland with the gospel and we recognize that all begins with you! We’re ready Lord. Would you start right here?
Amen
