Real Life Devotional Series “Hunger” – Week 1 - Monday – Pastor Chris
A Lifestyle of Living for Jesus
Scripture Reading — 1 Peter 1:13-16 (NASB)
"Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written: "You shall be holy, for I am holy."
Holiness. It's one of those words that brings to mind an image of Jesus or a devout follower of Jesus. It even brings to mind a long list of rigid, narrow-minded rules that are out of touch with reality—not to mention completely out of reach.
I want to see the Lord. I want to spend eternity with Him. I don't want to miss out on knowing God because I am without holiness. But at times, my life seems to stray far, far away from anything that remotely resembles holiness.
The truth is, no one is born holy—and none of us can fake it by acting righteous or thinking sacred thoughts. We can't even pursue holiness unless God stirs that desire in our hearts. So, what's a weak, imperfect Christian to do?
As I draw closer to God, Jesus, and interact with the Holy Spirit constantly, the Bible's revelation speaks to me. One thing I have gravitated to is this thought. Life does not revolve around me. My desires, my plans, my self-gratifying nature must die. Life is all about picking up the cross as Jesus picked it up for you and me, living in Christ's resurrection power, and pursuing a righteous love for Jesus.
Holiness is not an endless set of rules; it is a lifestyle of living for Jesus fueled by our willingness to let the Holy Spirit guide us, the Word of God to inspire us, and the Holiness of Christ to be the desire of our hearts, minds, and souls.
Pray this prayer today:
Lord, I hunger for Your holiness. This hunger is a passion for pursuing You—to know You and to become like You. Breathe holiness into my Life. Amen.
