Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning—lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (NKJV)
In this passage, Jesus is just a few days away from his crucifixion and the culmination of his time on earth. He has just described the state of the world in the "End Times" before returning to gather his people and take us all to Heaven. It will be a time of great tribulation and grave choices to be made—which he is foretelling to warn and help prepare his people.
This passage may be confusing and frightening, yet Jesus tells us how to act. In verse 34, we are reminded that he has left his servants (us) in charge, each with our particular task (which he expects us to carry out, no matter what is going on around us!). He says that NO-ONE knows precisely when he will return, and his advice to us could not be any more straightforward than in v.37: "And what I say to you I say to everybody: Watch (give strict attention, be cautious, active, and alert)!" AMPC
Prayer Focus – Today, we will pray for all the Christian Missionaries around the world who are ministering the Gospel. Let us pray that the Lord blesses the missionaries' ministry with converts, finances, protection, and opportunities to share the Gospel.
