Love Goes the Distance - Day 28 - Saturday, March 20th - Pastor Todd Crofford

And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. (ESV)
Some say the Gospel of Mark is a long introduction to the story about one week. Almost half of the entire story Mark tells centers around what we call Holy Week—the week leading to Jesus’ death and resurrection. And what a kickoff this is! These crowds are likely asking for the wrong thing, but their words are correct. Jesus has come to save them. They want Jesus to wear a crown, and he will—just not the kind they envisioned. God’s plans are not only different than theirs but so much better as well.
The saving work Jesus has come for will last much longer than earthly kingdoms ever can. The freedom he offers ransoms the soul instead of ransacking the political order. Today, what Jesus offers to us goes deeper than any modern urge, privilege, or power structure. Because of his finished work at the cross, we are set free from sin and all its eternal consequences. Right now, we should shout louder and longer than anyone did on that day because we know all Jesus has done for us. Use these moments to be overjoyed and express your gratefulness for what Jesus has done to save you and me.
Prayer Focus - Pray for the continued moving of God's Spirit that is changing lives in the name of Jesus during these 40 Days as we worship on-campus and online worship tomorrow.
