Scripture Reading – Mark 9:1-13; focus on 9:2-8

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
Christ's transfiguration was a one-time, awe-inspiring event! The Glory of God burst through to the earth to rest on Jesus as God revealed His plan through his special messengers Moses and Elijah. It must have been the most exhilarating and energizing experience for Jesus—preparing him for the trials and suffering of his final days on earth.
Jesus could have experienced it alone—but he chose to take along his closest three friends. James and John were stunned, but Peter's passion for pleasing Jesus resulted in the rather lame human response—to build shrines. In truth, NO human response can adequately express the awe of such glory. But God knows that and STILL wants to share special moments and reveal part of His plan to us. We may not understand much, but the experience of connecting with God is unforgettable and is written on our hearts. We reflect on it, and as time passes, we gradually come to understand more as His plan unfolds.
Prayer Focus – Today, we are praying for all our non-profit organizations around our nation and our community who minister to people in need every day, to help them find a solution to any difficulties they may be experiencing.
