Love Goes the Distance
40 Days of Prayer, Scripture & Fasting - Day 3 – Tuesday, February 23rd – Pastor Amie Donovan
Read Mark 3:1–19; and focus on 3:13–19 below
Remember to Pause | Read | Reflect | Listen |Pray | Journal |Practice | Encourage/Share |Fast
“And He went up on the mountain and summoned those whom He Himself wanted, and they came to Him. And He appointed twelve, so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach, and to have authority to cast out the demons. And He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter), James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, “Sons of Thunder”); and Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him."
As I prayerfully read through the passage above, something so beautifully stuck out about our Christ. We watch as Jesus examines the heart of those he encounters. The Pharisees' hardened hearts that Jesus glares upon in righteous anger. Then even deeper to the desperation of the hurting that long to be healed. To the fear-filled demons he silences, all the way to the twelve apostles that he chose to be his messengers. One thing I love about Jesus is throughout his life; we watch him address heart conditions.
This addressing of heart conditions is real in the life-giving way Jesus chose his twelve apostles. The apostles did not find favor because they were perfection. They were chosen despite their imperfection because their hearts were softened and open to following the LORD. Despite the differences in personalities, or life experiences, or cultural realities, Jesus knew their heart. Jesus knows your heart. Here's good news for you today. Christ doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called.
Prayer Focus – Pray for the Elevate Student Ministry Leaders and Volunteers as they minister the Gospel to our 8th-12th grade students.
