Killing Me Softly Devotional Series – Week 2 – Procrastination - Saturday – Pastor Todd
A Decision for Jesus
Acts 24:25 (NIV)
I must confess one of my favorite Pixar animated films is The Incredibles. The opening scene shows Mr. Incredible rushing from crisis to crisis, saving the day. We soon discover that this is actually his wedding day, and though he should long ago have headed for the church, he continues to use the line "I've still got time." Ultimately his procrastination leaves him late for his wedding, creating angst for his bride.
"I've still got time" was also the daily excuse of Felix, the governor of Caesarea, who got to listen to the preaching of Paul on many occasions. In the book of Acts, we are told that Felix was filled with fear at deciding whether Jesus, the one Paul preached about, really was the source of truth. In Acts 24:25, we read Felix in fear tell Paul,
"That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."
And though Paul was in custody for two years, Felix never made the time to decide to follow Christ. Finally, the day came when Felix was replaced and left the area with unfinished spiritual business.
Do you have unfinished spiritual business in your life? Do you tell yourself, "I've still got time to decide what to do about my relationship with God?" Today, consider me your not-so-gentle-nudge, reminding you that there is no guarantee for tomorrow for any of us. Four times in the Bible, we read this plea, "Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart." To choose not to decide today is a form of hardening. Please don't put it off any longer.
If you have not decided yet to follow Christ, there will never be a better day than today for you to humble your heart and pray with me.
"Jesus, I have heard the truth enough times to know your love for me and your sacrifice for my sins. Today I take the step of putting my trust in you, confessing my sins, and receiving your forgiveness and eternal life. Help me to live for you from this day forward." Amen.
If you prayed that prayer today, we would love to know about it. Email contact@reallife.us and let us know. We have some free materials we would love to send your way to help you along with this life-changing journey.
