God’s Blessings

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me,
bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.”
Psalm 103:1-2 (KJV)
Today’s quoted verses were my childhood pastor’s favorite opening greeting to our small, rural congregation in eastern Virginia. He worked as a church planter and started many churches throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. I was one of the first people he baptized in that church. I was eight years old, and he preached the gospel to me throughout my childhood. The church is now large, and that pastor has long since passed on.
Today, my soul praises the holy name of the Lord for the many Christian congregations that have prayed for me throughout my life, from the church and pastor of my faith’s beginnings to the loving congregation currently blessing me and my loved ones. The Lord’s blessings are many. When we recount them in our hearts with gratitude, these blessings encourage us in all circumstances. They help us rejoice in God’s abundance in the past as well as in the blessings of God which will surely come!
TODAY'S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank you for the many blessings you have sent throughout our lives and for all blessings yet to come. We pray as Jesus taught us, “Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation” (Luke 11:2-4, NIV). Amen.
