The Power of Listening
Slow down your time with God and let his Word sink in.
FRANK ROBINSON
I tell you what I have heard from the Lord Almighty.
Isa. 21:10 (NIV)
It was the week before I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I was completely unchurched, freshly married, and playing in a San Francisco rock band. My wife, Thelma, was talking to the wife of a guy who helped the band with its equipment.
The couple had just become Christians. She asked Thelma, “Would you and Frank like to go to church sometime?” She replied, “I’ll check with Frank.” Before I knew what was happening, we were on our way to church! The experience was completely different from what I imagined; then came the message. The preacher quoted Mark 9:7: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” The moment I heard that phrase, I believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Belief was that fast—and overwhelming.
The potency of God’s Word is often underestimated. But the Bible makes this point regularly: “My word that goes out . . . will not return to me empty” (Isa. 55:11). Isaiah took God’s Word seriously, always faithful to proclaim what he was given by God.
Make 2021 the year of listening to God’s Word. Allow the truth of Scripture to
take root in your soul and watch what happens, not just in your spiritual life, but in all aspects of life. Listen up! God still speaks.
Slow down your time with God and let his Word sink in.
