Family Tree Devotional Series - Week 4 – Peace - Friday – Anna Williams
Supernatural Peace
John 14:27 (NIV)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
I think we have all struggled to find peace this year. We joke of catastrophe bingo games, but there indeed has been so much that could easily discourage our hearts. I’m happy that we have access to a supernatural peace that can only come from Jesus.
When Jesus says here that he does not give to us as the world does—what could that mean? The world often gives unfairly. It chooses the popular, the trendy, and those who would benefit the giver politically. It provides with strings attached. The world often only gives to those deemed deserving, with Gifts that come with conditions and requirements. The world offers limitations and take-backs. It does not give sacrificially or generously.
Aren’t you glad that Jesus does not give to us as the world offers? The Bible says Jesus draws near the brokenhearted; Jesus is always found by those who seek him. Jesus can provide us with a peace that surpasses all understanding and comforts us even amid the worst circumstances. We do not have to be captives to discouragement or fear—Jesus has overcome the world.
Take a few moments to list three things that are troubling you today. Pray over those things, and then write down five things for which you want to praise God today. Worship him for those things!
