Family Tree Devotional Series - Week 2 – Love – Allison Hand
Pursuing Love
Ephesians 1:4-5 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him pleasure.”
As we go through advent season, celebrating all God has done by sending his son into the world, this week, we focus on why he did it all. It was because of his unchanging and pursuing love for us. A love that we can never really understand with our limited minds. And that leaves me in awe of God. This awe makes me think of the psalmist's words, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:3-4)
You see, God knew that we would choose sin, and yet he still chose us because of his great love for us. He pursued us since the dawn of creation and still pursues us today. And through it all, His love for us never changed or faded; his plan was always to bring us back to Him.
There is a song I listen to often in my quiet times called “Come Thou Fount,” and towards the end, there is a line that says, “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it.” There are days when I am often prone to wander away from the God I love, yet His pursuing love pulls me back in each time. Have you let yourself wander away from God. Be reminded of His pursuing love today.
