Family Tree Devotional Series - Week 1 – Hope Wednesday – Allison Hand
Promises, Promises

Jeremiah 29:11, NIrV
“‘I know the plans I have for you,’ announces the LORD. ‘I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come.’”

I promise I will not get hurt. I promise I will take the trash out after I get this done. I promise never to hurt you. God, I promise to read your word and pray every day.
We are a people loaded with promises we many times do not keep.  But God has always kept his promises since the beginning of time.

Hope in our lives is built on God’s faithfulness in his promises.  Of course, the BEST guarantee God gave us is a Savior. The Old Testament people knew of this promise of a Savior and spent years waiting for that hope to come true. And now that hope lives in us through the Holy Spirit.  And that Spirit is a promise of future hope.  Not just the great future hope of eternity with the Father but hope for today. Check out some of these promises from God’s word.

“You will come and pray to me. And I will listen to you.” (Jeremiah 29:12, NIrV)

“He gives strength to those who are tired. He gives power to those who are weak.” (Isaiah 40:29, NIrV)

“‘I know the plans I have for you,’ announces the LORD. ‘I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come.’” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIrV)

“Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope. I am the LORD your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIrV)

These are great promises that give us hope to live on every day. As we journey through this world, awaiting eternity with the Father, we can lean in close and trust that God has been faithful in the past and will be faithful in our future. Which of these promises sticks out the most to you?  Thank God for it right now.
