Brave Devotional Series - Week 6 – Not So Grim Reaper - Friday – Anna Williams
Not of this World
1 Peter 2:9-11 (NLT)
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.” Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.”
Have you had times in your life when you felt like you did not belong? I have felt it many times in my own life, especially when my parents went to Veracruz, Mexico's mission field. We left everything I had ever known and moved to a country where the language, food, and customs were vastly different. We often stuck out in the crowd, particularly since my mother is 5’9” with bright red hair!
The Bible says that when we give our hearts to Christ, we gain the identity of Children of God. That makes us temporary residents here on earth, and should change our mindsets to focus on Kingdom purposes. Sometimes that can be a struggle to swim upstream and against the flow, but there is also an excellent source of peace in this truth.
The pain, the frustration, the lost loved ones, and the overall junk of this world WILL come to an end. Not in the oblivion of my eventual death but ultimately in the culmination of my faith in Jesus Christ. My choices today are made with an eye on tomorrow.
I trust that one day, I will see my Savior. My eyes will gaze upon the beauty of his new creation – the place he has prepared for his people. And on that day, I will be reunited with my grandparents. I will see my child, whose earthly body was plagued by disease and dysfunction, running around and talking up a storm.
Join me in this prayer:
Lord, may I never feel like I fit in here because my true home is with Jesus!
