The Answer For “I’m Tired”
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
Lately, I’ve noticed myself answering, “I’m tired,” when someone asks me, “How are you doing?”
That’s odd for me because usually, I’m more of the, “I’m doing great! How about you?” kind of person.
But it’s the truth.
I am tired.
It’s actually been a tough tired for which I can find rest. I’ve recently had a death in my family that has been hard on me, and cognitively, grief is laborious and exhausting. That exhaustion is the exhaustion I give to God.
But part of the reason I’m so tired is that I get to do so many things. So many good things!
So many good things for GOD!
And that shouldn’t make one tired, should it? Doing God’s work? The Bible tells us that we were created for good works that God prepared beforehand.
Here’s the thing, though, and what has been speaking to me lately as I’ve sought God’s rest.
Not every good thing for God is a good God thing for you.
Repeat that and believe it.
If you find yourself hurried and tired, consider that you’re not doing things God intended for you. You can’t say yes to every good thing just because it’s for God–the good things we can do for God are limitless.
The reality is that God gives us just enough time to do all the things He wants us to do. Work, volunteer, vacation, etc…whatever it is that fills your time. If you’re feeling rushed and ragged, then maybe you need to take some time to seek God and ask Him what exactly He wants you to be doing, and what exactly He might want you to let go of.
Yes, He created us for good works, but if we bog ourselves down without being really sure they’re the works He has planned for us, good as they are, they may just end up exhausting us and stealing the joy He purposed for us.
It’s hard to weed through so many good things.
I know.
I’m talking to myself this very minute.
But it’s worth the time to really spend with Him and listen for Him to tell you how to fill your days.
And that’s where we’ll find the way to end, “I’m tired.”
