God Wants to Transform You
Anna Williams
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 36:26-27 NIV
Change is hard. Whether you're trying to drop a bad habit or drop those extra pounds, it can feel overwhelming to tackle on your own. I love how this scripture says "I will," multiple times.
Even in this Old Testament verse, God makes it abundantly clear that the transformation we need can only come through His work in and through us. I don't know about you, but that sure is a relief to me.
I don't have to put together a 10-point plan for how I'm going to be a better person; I just need to focus on Him. When we truly make Jesus the Lord of our lives, we enter into this amazing relationship with Him. When we talk to him regularly (through prayer) and when we try to learn as much about Him as we can (by reading the Bible), we begin to compare our words/actions to His own. Through studying Jesus, we learn to see people the way that He sees them and our reaction is an increase in love toward them.
Jesus said He came to give us abundant life (John 10:10). Do you feel like your life abounds in joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?
Take a minute and read that last question again.
If the answer is no, maybe it's time for a change. And the great news is… the beginning of transformation is only a prayer away!
