Something About That Name
By: Pastor Mark White

“Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and
gave him the name that is above every name, …”
Philippians 2:9

There’s just something about that name. First “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” And when Peter and John encounter a lame man while going up to the temple to pray, they stand upon the healing power of Jesus’ name by saying “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.”

How Majestic and Powerful is the name of Jesus!  This is precisely what Paul exclaims in his message to the Philippians in chapter 2. He emphasizes how Jesus, despite being God, humbled Himself and took on human form, ultimately sacrificing His life on the Cross. He did this so that we could once again have relationship with God. Paul underscores that Jesus possesses the highest name of all. That the name of Jesus surpasses all other names. Hallelujah!

So, let us live Psalms 148:13 that says “Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.” We sing praises to the beautiful name of Jesus because He has no equal or rival. He alone is worthy of our deepest affections.

We pray in the name of Jesus.  We pray fervently for strongholds to be broken in the lives of our family. We intercede in Jesus’ name, seeking salvation for our friends and coworkers.
We pray for protection, guidance, strength, and that he would use us as his witnesses.  And John 14:13 assures us that "Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

One of the songs that I grew up on and I find myself humming from time to time,
“There’s Something About That Name” …

“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus; there’s just something about that name.
Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain;
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all Heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away,
But there’s something about that name.”
