Search Me, Lord
By: Allison Hand
“Therefore, I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” Luke 7:47
Wait a minute.
Does this verse mean that only those who have a lot of sins that need to be forgiven by God are able to love God more deeply?
Thankfully, no.
Jesus did speak these words, but I believe he wasn’t addressing the magnitude of our sins as much as the posture of our hearts.
God brought this to my attention recently–that I was not allowing Him to search me and reveal places where I had been wrong. He reminded me that in my sitting with Him, I had not been asking Him for forgiveness for my mistakes.
I had been in daily quiet times and spending time in Scripture, but I had gotten super comfortable with the idea that I am forgiven. So much so, that I no longer was recognizing my need to ask for it.
Which, I believe, kept me from fully experiencing and embracing God’s incredible love through forgiveness for myself.
Seeking His forgiveness makes us more aware of our real need of God. It reminds us that what we have received is an amazing gift from God.
It helps us to love God deeper.
Isn’t this what we all want?
