The Good Fight

December 30, 2022

Rev. Jeremy Summers

The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign forever and ever. (Revelation 11:15)

We can be encouraged that one day the way things are supposed to be will turn out to be the way things really are. The kingdom of God is both present and future, and even now, he is making all things new! This is the good news!

However, we are also reminded that life can be messy, and our trajectory in Christ is not always a linear experience. There isn’t necessarily an immediate, clean break between our old self and our new self. It is only through his power, love, and grace that we’re continually being made fresh. Yet God still welcomes and desires our participation in serving and loving him. This is why we are always learning, seeking, and growing in our faith. We are not yet completely Christlike, which is why, through his grace, our status before God is about who we are “in Christ.”
Keep up the good fight, work out your salvation, make your calling sure, and grow in the reality of who Christ has created you to be through him who is all and in all! Remember, God’s grace is not opposed to effort; it is opposed to earning. Earning is an attitude. Effort is an action. And our commitment and obedience to the ways of God will be rewarded. For his kingdom will reign forever!
