Taste and See

November 19th
Taste and See!
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney

Recently we went with some friends to do some window shopping and enjoy lunch in Old Town Alexandria. As we walked the streets headed toward our lunch destination, the sights and smells of a variety of restaurants awoke every one of our senses. We kept pointing out different restaurants and exclaiming to each other, “Oh my, do you smell THAT? Something smells amazing!”

Finally, we arrived at our lunch spot and tasted the food -  enjoying the flavors and being filled. We sat around the table and experienced the warmth and satisfaction of nourishing our bodies with good food and our spirits with good friendship.

This is how I think of the difference between the former glory that caused Moses’ face to shine, and then fade; and the greater glory that we experience now through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that gives us life. It’s the difference between seeing and smelling the food – and actually tasting and being nourished by it.

2 Corinthians 3:7-11 explains that the old way began with such glory that the people couldn’t look at Moses face, but that brightness faded. They could get a sense of the glory of God, but they didn’t fully experience it. Verses 10 & 11 say, “In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!”

How much better is it to taste and see? To experience?

Because of the cross, we can! Praise God! Because the veil was torn, because Holy Spirit came to live in us, we can be filled and have everlasting life!
