No Rival
By: Chrissy Cooney
One of my favorite worship songs is “What a Beautiful Name.” These lines get me every time: “He has no rival, He has no equal,” I can hardly contain myself when I sing them, arms stretched high. Perhaps it’s because, in all my humanness, comparison is something I battle often - the truth that Jesus has no rival, that no one compares to Him, makes me want to shout for joy. Our God reigns supreme. Another song says it this way, “Who can compare? Who would even dare?” There is not another being on the earth, above it, or below it that can even come close to comparing to our God, there’s no one who can “come within a million-foot pole of” equaling Jesus.
And yet, in all His greatness, He cares for us. He loves us. He sees us. He is for us. Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, humbled Himself to walk among us, took on human likeness, and submitted himself to death on a cross for us. Oh, He is so worthy of our worship!
Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the Name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Jesus humbled Himself for us and God elevated Him to the highest place. It’s our reasonable response to give Him all praise, honor, and glory. He Is Worthy!
This scripture tells us that every one of us – all created beings – will bow their knees to Jesus. I don’t know about you friends, but I want to do it willingly, with joy, in the here and now. I want to bow my knees, lift my hands, dance, sing, and worship Him with everything I am and everything I have. He gave it all for me – I don’t want to hold anything in reserve when I’m bringing Him praise.
This Christmas season, as we are singing praises to Emmanuel, God with us, let’s give Him our all. Let’s bring the gift, the sacrifice, of worship to our King. Let’s praise Him with all of our strength, full of joy because of who He is and what He has done for us. After all, He has no rival, He has no equal, who could even dare to compare to Him?
