Cookie Cutter
By: Kaleigh Hoschar
What can be said about loss… I guess something because this year is in no short supply or it.
Sometimes it’s been dark.
Sometimes I can barely breathe.
Sometimes I’m okay and sometimes I’m not.
Sometimes when I’m sitting alone it overwhelms my soul.
But that’s grief isn’t it. People say there are stages, but sometimes that can feel like your loss fits a cookie cutter, standard, reaction. No one wants to talk about what it looks like in someone who feels it all at once.
What about when you feel them all together?
The anger.
The disbelief.
The bargaining.
The sadness.
The acceptance.
Only God can handle that. The torrent of emotions of things unsaid, the God of the universe can handle that.
Psalm 73:26 says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever"
The Lord is truth in disbelief.
He is the calm in our anger.
He is the only way out in our bargaining.
He is the light in the sadness.
And God is abundant grace in acceptance.
If you are navigating loss this season as I am, God sees you. He hears you in your loss, He loves you through your grief.
“The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation. This is my God and I will praise Him.” Exodus 15:2
