Puppies 4 Sale
By: Nicole Goddard
When I was a little girl, my Dad had taken me and my brother out on an errand run and we ended up stopping by a yard sale. The man's boat had caught my Dad's attention, but a small sign that said "Puppies 4 Sale" caught mine.
The next hour was met with the world's most desperate negotiation between two small kids and a father over the NEED to get these puppies. We promised to care for them, walk them, feed them, clean up after them, use our allowance to buy their food - you name it. And much to my mother's surprise, we came home that afternoon with two little puppies in tow.
Now, did me and my brother do all those things we said we would do? Sure - in the beginning when it was new and exciting and fun. But my parents did what parents do and filled in the gaps where we fell short.
Our faith can be a lot like a small child with a puppy. New and inspiring in the beginning, but once life chews up your favorite toy or you have to take yet another walk out in the rain we can get a little complacent. We may try to dodge our responsibilities assuming someone else will pick it up. Or the world gets so loud and distracting you forget all about what he desires for you.
I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Ephesians 4:1
Struggles, distractions and diminished charm are real things we contend with in this world. To live worthy of your calling in spite of these challenges, you MUST come to him daily to renew your spirit and refocus your attention on what he has given you to steward.
